My VPS

Debian Linux Virtual Private Server

I am the proud owner of a Virtual Private Server, hosted by Mihosnet. It is powered by SWSOFT's Virtuozzo virtualization software. It's not as good as a Xen VPS (but cheaper), but I can handle it. Virtuozzo VPSs are generally cheaper because overbooking on the RAM memory is done by assigning memory dynamically. This feature is in favour of the hoster, not for the user.

You can choose the Linux distribution you want and you have root access to it. Knowledge of setting up a Linux server is a prequirement when considering security. I chose for Debian 4.0 (Etch), because of prior experience with Debian at the VvTP. I think Debian is most accessible for most users and offers the best software-update/upgrade software (Aptitude). In seconds, you can install the latest security updates of common server software like Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc.
